Is IPL Hair Removal Better Than Old Fashioned Waxing

When managing body and facial hair, you can be faced with so many different solutions, and the method that you choose can depend on so many different things. If you are considering IPL or waxing as an option or if you are not quite sure which hair removal method would be best for you, check out our handy guide.

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, and it is an increasingly effective way of removing hair from most areas of the face and body. It has grown increasingly more successful in recent years, and can successfully permanently reduce hair growth by damaging the hair follicle at the bulb. Emitting, a wavelength into the skin, it is a quick and easy hair removal solution. On the other hand, waxing involves covering the area with wax and then using strips to remove the hair from the root. Again, this can be quick and is relatively easy, but is definitely not pain-free.

Technology has improved dramatically with the best IPL machine for sale these days have the option for men or women who want to get on top of the fuzz. It does work best on people with fair skin and dark hair, as darker skin tones may absorb some of the waves, potentially resulting in burns. However, if you have a darker complexion or fair hair, speak to your beautician about VPL, Variable Pulse Light.

On a per treatment basis, waxing is more affordable that IPL sessions or purchasing your own professional  IPL machine cost. However, after a few basic IPL sessions, your hair growth can reduce up to 90% of all hair growth. While it is a semi-permanent procedure, the hair that does grow back is also likely to be lighter and not as thick.

With both procedures, you will need to keep up treatment. However, waxing should be done more frequently; with regrowth being around 3-6 weeks depending on the individual. With IPL, there is usually some immediate hair loss, and hair will continue to fall out 2-3 weeks after the procedure. After the treatments are completed, an IPL session should be used once in a while to prevent regrowth.

People have different thresholds of pain, and the experience itself can be subjective. Waxing can be too much for some, especially in more sensitive areas such as the bikini line. The hair removal process using an IPL hair removal machine is relatively, and it is considerably less painful than removing waxing strips. There may be some redness or a tingling sensation left behind. However, this can be relieved with ice.

After Effects

Although skin can be slightly red and inflamed after an IPL procedure, this is often still less painful than the results of waxing. Plus, unlike waxing, there is no risk of getting ingrown hair from using an IPL machine. These painful bumps and sometimes nasty infections are a common side effect of shaving or waxing. But by destroying the bulb of the root, IPL reduces the risk, with minimal side effects.
